Since 2004, we’ve spent millions of pounds on more than 160 sustainable education, health and welfare and income security projects in the UK, Asia and Africa. This money has directly benefitted tens of thousands of people, and indirectly benefitted many more.
Who can apply?
To be eligible for funding, your organisation must:
Work at a grassroots level in our target regions
These are: Malawi, Zambia, Ethiopia, Tanzania, Madagascar and Mozambique in Africa; India, Pakistan, Nepal and Sri Lanka in Asia; the UK.
Be responsible
for the design, delivery and supervision of the project.
Be a nonprofit organisation
whose primary funding comes from donations or grants, with annual income and spending under £3 million.
Have appropriate safeguarding policies in place
including vetting individuals and organisations working with the beneficiaries.
Not discriminate
according to gender, race, religion and ethnicity.
Be a UK-based charity
registered with the UK Charities Commission and have a UK-based bank account.
Have been active for one year
and be able to produce annual accounts for a whole year.
What will we fund?
To be eligible for funding, your project must:
Deliver in either of these areas:
Develop local community infrastructure such as access to education, healthcare and clean water.
Support livelihood development for example increasing household food, health and income security.
Be transformative and lead to a sustainable outcome
Enabling people and communities to support themselves. We are unable to give donations or emergency funding.
Be value for money
If overheads such as management supervision, monitoring and reporting are needed, these are kept to a minimum.
Please note: We also consider projects where funding partners bring together several grant-making bodies as co-funders.


How funding decisions are made
Funding decisions are made following a rigorous assessment process based on criteria that reflects our vision and current strategy. We are also bound by our own disbursement rules. Ultimately, funding decisions are taken collaboratively by the trustees and their decisions are final.
